Default sub $500 automatic chronograph??

i know im kinda reaching here...but with my re-found interest in watches, i wanted to revisit an old interest that I never really indulged in... a chronograph.
that isnt to say that i have NEVER owned a chronograph..i have in fact.
I had a swatch automatic chrono with an ETA C01.211 movement. not a bad watch per se, and very typical chrono looking for a swatch, but this time around im looking for something a little less...Swatchy (and a few less plastic movement parts) I would still prefer to keep it within a "diver" style.

the biggest problem I am finding is that the words "automatic" and "chronograph" are often synonymous with "expensive".
perhaps its just my movement bias that keeps me from getting something with a swiss rhonda movement. I could easily pick up a deep blue chrono well under $500 with a quartz movement, but before I go that route, i was curious if anyone was aware of some decent options.
im all for purchasing used.

I have been very impressed with this one, but it is a manual wind in bronze and also not a divers style.
Excellent hand finished column wheel chronograph an upgraded version of the Swiss Venus movement from the 60s now owned by Seagull.
It is a TC9 Lunarscope this one is a little over budget at todays exchange rate it is roughly $580.
I think you will struggle to get a decent automatic chronograph sub $500.

Gary hit the nail on the head - finding a sub $500 mechanical chrono won't be a doddle.
If you care to broaden your horizons, you may want to have a peep at some of the Russian brands like the Poljot 3133 series - there are others too.
Then there's Seagull with their 1963 offerings and more.

Would be interesting to know what's available in the price range you are looking at. Let us know what you find

Tissot always seemed to have semi-reasonable prices with their
chronographs, and automatic chronographs WM.

Found a few links of just some of the examples with prices at least
around what you are looking for. But the guys are totally right, it's
near impossible going sub $500.

Not sure if these are all in stock. But hope you enjoy just looking.

If you could stretch it to around $800 you could get the below.

Currently sold out, not sure when coming back. I got them for around $600 through Kickstarter. William L 1985 automatic chronographs with the Seiko NE88 column wheel movement. There are other dials also. I was really surprised with how well they turned out for the price.

Coming to Kickstarter in September for around $750 are Swiss auto chronographs from Maen. Smaller and not as tall as the William L's, they look really nice to me and I'm trying to figure out how to score them lol.

Deep Blue offers their 7750 autos for I believe $799 when on sale. Code Deep might still work for 40% off.
