Default Dive bezel a feature or complication?

Happened to pick up a piece I hadn't worn in a while that has a stiff bezel action and was turning it to loosen it up a little as is my habit when I wear it. Hoping one day it won't take major effort to set the dive bezel time. It occurred to me. Is a dive bezel considered a Feature of the case or a complication? Are complications only part of the movement or are things like a Canteen crown considered complications? Just semantics but I was curious? Sorry to take so long but I thought I'd explain the question a little.

I am pretty sure that complications only refer to the watches movement the dive bezel is just an additional feature to measure elapsed time.

No need to apologize MDNTRDR ! Think it's a really great question
to tell the truth. Never actually thought about it, but wow what a topic.
Would have to echo Gary's answer about it being more of a feature honestly.

Neat post's. I've never heard of an Equation of time complication before. Thanks AT.

Don't mention it MDNTRDR. Hope I didn't actually end up making
things more confusing with this topic, or question, but I think I did.

Good question.
So a dive bezel is not really considered a complication per se. A complication is linked and/or related to the movement (date/chronograph/GMT etc).
There are watches without dive bezels but with any number of complications.

The links provided by AT clarifies this well enough. Nice to know

My understanding is that 'complication' is used to describe all additions to a movement beyond the three hands. So in a time clocks had only one hand (hour) the minute hand must have been the first complication. On a side note: in my country dive watches for official use (PADI training for instance) are regulated by strict guidelines. They still have to be analogue (hands) and a 'timing' bezel is mandatory. ISO 6425 must be one of the standards that is applied. But since the introduction of the dive computer this has become moot as the watch is just for backup.

A GMT bezel I think would be a complication because it's used in conjunction with a central hand but a dive bezel maybe not because if the movement is swapped to another case it would not be part of the watch. How's that for confusing.

Bezel being hard to turn is better'n being too easy to turn.
Especially underwater.
My youngest son forsake SCUBA diving for Triathlons. He's
an IronMan.
Never dived below 140 feet. Wore a dive computer on dives.

Wears a Garmin 720X. His wife wears a Garmin Fenix 2. She
is an IM too. How can wimmen be IronMen? Duh!
