Default Seiko when I was a kid

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with digital watches. This was the one I focused most my obsession on and when I was 11 or 12 my parents bought it for my birthday.

It's is huge and brutally ugly, but that was always kinda it appeal. With the new of Apple Watch I was reminded I'd had it floating around in a drawer for the last 20 years, and it shapes up to a pretty similar size. A new battery and a little work on the bracelet and it's wearable again

When I was a kid I looked down on ALL Japanese watches!!!
But that was then and this is NOW. "Made in Japan" meant POS
watches IMO.
I've winnowed every Swiss watch I've owned out tha door.
I'm that sold on Seiko, Orient, Citizen and Credor. Even Alba.

Swiss made no longer holds the charm it used to hold. Dont get
me wrong. I'm not saying Swiss made watches with 7750s and
SW200 and 500s are junk. Jus sayin I like Japanese watches the
most. Especially JDM iterations.

WFs:
Take this input with grains of salt. I got it 2nd hand.
Or as they say on TV "Heresay".
Japanese vs Swiss. Info I read from a supposedly
factual source said: Only 3% of Swiss watches will
pass COSC standards (no info on ISO standards).
If they wont pass COSC gotta assume they wont
pass ISO either.
Nuther way to percieve this info is 97% of Swiss
pieces will not pass. WR is the reason I bought Swiss
to begin with!!!
So what criteria are we left with when opining which
iterations to buy?Anyone with contradictory evidence
please post it.

When I was a kid I had a Seiko that looked like a tiny Submariner and I had it forever less a day because I can't find it but it worked and never stopped working for as long as I had it!
