Has anyone had a chance to see Zeno’s Deep Diver Tachymeter?
The new watch takes you back to the 1970's with a it's Aquadive Caribbean
feel. Along with details like a 46mm case, 500m WR, black, blue, orange, and
yellow dial, and bezel combinations. Along with luminous hands, as well as
markers, NATO straps with all of the models. Except the black dial version
which has a mesh bracelet. Plus ETA 2824-2 there behind everything.
They definitely are different Chaz, and maybe the size might be too
big for a lot of people. ..Not sure how big the vintage versions were
as compared to these either.
But honestly have to admit, other than the price, am liking these.
I really wish I had a better idea of profit margins for making these watches because it seems that the prices for some of these micros feel pretty out of touch with reality.
And yes...I realize that a lot goes into a watch besides the movement and strap as far as money for design and implementation goes, but $800-$900 for this seems just a little... I dunno, whats the word....overpriced?
so let's compare it to a microbrand watch I own that specs out similar to this one.
my Prometheus Zenobia.
Prometheus case size: 43mm (but only 48mm lug to lug)
Zeno case size: 46mm (no actual lugs though)
prometheus movement: ETA 2824-2
zenomovement: ETA 2824-2
Prometheus WR 500m
Zeno WR 500m
Prometheus strap: SS bracelet with screw links, milled scissor clasp with ratcheting divers extension
Zeno strap: cheap nato.
Prometheus $ brand new: $550
Zeno $ brand new $800
Zeno website has the Deep Diver Tachymeter as 100 piece runs of each dial color.
so here we have two similarily specced watches. I would definitely give points to the Prometheus for the bracelet and upgraded clasp, and yet it is $250 cheaper than the Zeno. the Zeno with a mesh strap is $900 and I still wouldn't put that on par with a nice screw link bracelet with actual divers clasp.
don't get me wrong... I like the puck style, but I'm just not seeing the Zeno as an $800+ watch. I mean, sure, swiss movement. but my Prometheus has the same movement.
is the Zeno better regulated? or better decorated (not that either has a display case back anyway) the extra money sure isn't going into a nice strap, that's for sure.
$800 for the base model and all you get is a cheap nato?
maybe im just too picky when it comes to watches, but i really feel you have much better options than this zeno in the $800-$900 price range.
You are not too picky WM. :thumb: Think you are just using common sense,
and trying to understand what's behind the prices, and other than the
limited edition thing, it's hard to understand like you are saying.
Actually think companies, or brands use the limited edition theme
so much now, and it seems like every other watch is limited somehow.
But it still doesn't explain things, and when compared to other watches
like you are saying. Which are just as impressive, of not more. It makes
you scratch your head. :confused3:
Would be phenomenal if these were about half the price. But guess
we live in another dimension, or alternate universe sir.
So as usual am going to just look at the pictures. :bounce:
It resembles the original but only just. I really dislike the Zeno logo (far too 'in your face') and the 'Swiss Movt' on the dial is a tell tale sign the watch may be assembled in, say, China. Not Swiss or Swiss Made but Swiss Movt. Ouch. Having said all this, I do like the style. Maybe CREPAS should take a shot at this watch......
That logo does seem to be a negative for a lot of people Frans. Am actually
kind of wondering if they made it a little larger than it used to be maybe. I
think they did sir. ..Oh, and terrific detective work on the Swiss Movt thing
too here. Didn't even notice !
Would be something if slowly but surely we started to see more, and more
of the UFO style watch Frans. I mean the watch industry often seems to
keep on eye on different trends, and this could be the beginning of the
return of these. It could be Crepas, or a host of brands that all of a sudden
give it a go in the next year, or so.
One thing is for sure, it will be fun to see if they do sir !
You got it Scott, and you know, I wonder if maybe these aren't actually
46mm at the end of the day.
Maybe they are more like 42, or 43mm without including the crown !
Am with you here Scott, and like everything, but that price tag.
