Ouch, that question :D But it's not about a watch. It's about something completely different. It concerns chip tuning. Do any of you outstanding members have any experience with chip tuning? I'm about to take delivery of a new car, well, I have to wait two months or so and the many, many chip tuning companies out there promise a lot for the engine that comes with my car. More BHP, lower fuel consumption, more torque and invisible to my dealer's diagnostic equipment. When you get a 'stage two' tuning you'll even get a written warrantee that states that they will repair the engine if something still goes wrong as the tuning will keep the engine within factory limits. It seems too good to be true

The tuning is invisible to the dealer's computer but not to the guy at the dealership that drives your car in to be serviced.

A friend of mine and I drove to a tuning shop in Germany a few weeks ago with his MB 500E and it now has 525hp where 408 once were - and it is really easy to tell the difference at any speed.
This is the second time the car has had this done because the original tuning was reset by an MB dealer (apparently it wasn't invisible or they found it anyway) when the car went in for a service.

It is. About to have a car (2002 far out of warranty) tuned. Your choices are a soft but expensive stage one that adds a little fuel and tells the car the It's at either a higher elevation or bm pressure. As soon as you alter any hard data points. I.e. shift point, redline, fuel pressure, boost pressure. It is plainly obvious. That's why I buy used. Not to mention the drastically shorter lifespan of things like your cats and fuel pump. I wouldn't if I can't afford to support the vehicle without the warranty. Sorry I'm not explaining it very well I'm not even that good of a mechanic.

It it that obvious? :D (What about 18" rims? :D). Well, to summarise: none of you had it done and all of you think it's bad idea! :D Thanks for the help!

Why not just open Pandora's box? :D

Mwa. I don't feel like doing that whole song and dance routine again :D Becoming a member -> introduction -> complaining about not being able to make a post outside the introduction thread -> posting in the 'What is your car?' thread and finally a 'Help me decide' post in the 'Chip tuning' section. Man, that takes ages :D :D

Frans, first of all congratulations on the incoming new car ! :clap2: :smile1:
Or BIG congratulations rather !!! :smile-thumb: To tell the truth,
this sounds like a really great thing, but am not sure how it will
affect the warranty honestly. So don't want to tell you to do it,
or not to do it. Although the written warranty they say they will
give you makes it all seem very temping, and fine.

Years ago we had had a 1990 Mustang GT that we put a Superchip
in, but the car's warranty had long expired. But nothing bad happened
nonetheless.

You know what might be cool?! Is if you enjoy the car in stock
form for a little while, and then as you learn more, can decide
what to do. That way you'll have time to find out more, and in
the meantime you will be enjoying that new beauty ! :)
