Having Played and Coached American Tackle Football, I watched the Cup and the action was undeniable.

This Sport should have been more successful in the U.S. then Soccer but doesn't get the air time on TV.

For decades the Soccerphiles have been telling us Soccer is going to be a dominant sport in the U.S. it isn't and never will be. Too Long, slow, low scoring and boring for American tastes, youth soccer, Meh! Soccer Mom's don't want to have their little snowflake Perriwinkle injured playing tackle football so that explains the boom of youth soccer.

Also gearing up a kid to play soccer is inexpensive, a jersey, and shorts and spikes (basically colored underwear) a couple of nets and ball.

When I coached football the kids all had Jerseys, practice and game, pants, knee pads, thigh pads, hip pads, shoulder pads and a Bike Air Helmet that cost $150 back in the 80's, a mouthpiece and a jockstrap and cup. The school picked up the tab for everything but the spikes, mouthpiece and jockstrap and cup.

It is interesting that studies by Pediatric science show more debilitating youth injuries from soccer then tackle football, mostly knee injuries.

No Rugby is definitely a manly man's sport and the players on the Cup all looked like the Bruisers you see in American or Canadian Football.

I'm sure the Soccer Mom mothers would object to little Perriwinkle playing Rugby as well, maybe even more so seeing the bloodied faces and ears.

Now another Manly Man's sport Lacrosse!

If you enjoyed full 16 man per side, you should check out 7's. Seven players per side with 7 minute halves (10 minutes in the final). Fast paced, and generally high scoring. A lot of fun. It is in the Olympics now too. Pretty fun game.
