About/History: "Welcome to N80! I specialize in NATO and Zulu straps but am happy to take custom orders. Never hesitate to inquire. I encourage my customers to share their vision and become involved in making choices about the design. Your vision and creativity are important to me. I owe a great deal of my success to you and your vision. Thanks! I also offer many proven designs for you to choose from.

I expect my straps not only to give you a lifelong service but more importantly add to the character and individuality of your watch. Each watch has a personality that is best paired with the right leather, canvas, thread, and finish combinations. I am working very hard to ensure you have the best options available and will only continue to provide better quality and greater flexibility with your support. I have a 100% no hassle return policy simply because your enthusiasm about my product is the most important thing to me. I understand the value of a dollar and insist you get your moneys worth from my products.

I have been fascinated with watches since I was a child. To me watches are not just something you wear on your wrist that tell time. They are a reflection of our history, scientific achievement, and creative intelligence as humans. They are a culmination of our greatest technological and aesthetic capabilities. The most amazing part is just about anyone can own one and its small enough to be strapped to your wrist! Check out my work and be sure to keep your eye out for me. Hope to hear from you soon! I currently have a blog where all pictures, info, and purchasing inquires can be made. Go to...n80leather.wordpress.com Feel free to contact me directly [email protected]."

Specifications:

Leather: Vintage Oil Tanned Cowhide
Strap type: Classic 5 ring Nato
Size: XL (for 7.5" -8" wrist)
Length: 29 cm
Thickness: approximately 1.65mm
Hardware: PVD Black
Lining: Black, Folded Edge Wax Canvas
Edge: Dyed Black/Burnished
Stitch: Black Nylon
Customizations: None

Thoughts and Impressions: The strap arrived packed nicely as any other n80leather product in a square labeled cardboard box along with the same personal touch of the note inside the box. The material for the strap is Vintage Oil Tanned Cowhide. The strap is the Classic 5 ring NATO with measurements of 24/24mm, and 1.65mm thick. The stitching is black nylon. The stitching is precise and even throughout strap. I really like the folded burnished edging of the strap. However, upon request the strap can be made in a way to allow the canvas a more frayed natural appearance similar to what many of us has seen with Vintager straps and the edging of a French Canvas strap. The typical premium cost ranges from $75-$90.

The strap is extremely soft and flexible. The addition of a black waxed canvas lining is what makes this NATO unique. The strap's canvas lining provides a thicker more substantial feel aiding in better balance on the wrist. As I have mentioned many times before watch balance on the wrist is a paramount aspect for comfort. The waxed canvas lining provides a softer feel on the wrist making the strap even more comfortable. Black, dark tan and Olive are the 3 canvas color options available. The tear drop tip is currently a standard non optional feature on all folded edge canvas lined straps in order to control the integrity of the canvas near that tip. Alternatives to the tear drop in order to maintain strap integrity are being researched, however, I actually like the tear drop and believe it gives the strap more character.

Like the previously reviewed unique XL NATO the addition of the waxed canvas aspect makes for another very creative and unique design. The waxed canvas can also be requested for the XL variations. Quality materials and a unique touch make for another fantastic NATO strap experience. Thanks for reading and I look forward to your comments and experiences as always.

Quality strap by all accounts. Canvas lining is an excellent idea.

Thanks for the review.

First one that was shipped to me had a bezel that wouldn't align perfectly at the 12:00 position. This is a peeve of mine, so back it went.

Received the new replacement and I'm now a happy camper.

Nice pics mike...and thanks again for the generous review! You guys need to realize mike is a natural. He picked that leather from an obscure photo of some leather choices and could not have done better. I assure I'm working to provide more reliable methods of selection. My methods are somewhat crude at the moment...

Man that looks good. Magrette ought to do business with N80 on their pieces. I really like the strap on the cushion case a lot and especially in the black IP.

Thanks Dustin.

Noticed some guys discussing hardware. You make all your own hardware to specs correct? So bronze or putting a high polish on SS no issues at all?

Correct, I can make hardware from brass, phosphor bronze, titanium, stainless steel, copper, or any other material I can allocate rod stock for. Im proud of my homemade equipment. I have recently modified it to accept rods from 1/16" up to 1/4" And bend lug sizes 20mm-26mm. Adding more sizes would be no problem. I can abrassive blast, polish, coat or finish the metal in almost anyway. DLC coatings are in the near future, just not quite there. I currently outsource the Pvd service but have access to ceracoatings.

It's labor intensive but my work is cheap and premium quality...someone should hire me! Lol, jk

Thanks for the review, Mike. I have been averse to leather NATOs prior to seeing this one. Leather just did not lend itself to what I see in a NATO.

That said, this puppy really looks fantastic! So, there is room for leather NATOs in my collection.

With the govt closed, its best for me to avoid expense at this time, but if/when things get rolling again, I will definitely be looking at this strap again!

Thanks for the review!

Yeah Rob this would be a great change of pace for the NIMO as an example. I can't remember how much room between case and lug bars but pretty sure something can be made. Hope the shutdown doesn't go too long.
