I am going through a massive upgrade at work and it got me wondering since the Government is usually way behind the curve in keeping up with current trends in Operating Systems and software releases I was wondering how many of us are "early adopters" or "wait and see" computer users. I am one of the early adopters and am running the most current version of Windows and *nix on my home systems. What is your current Operating System for Windows, Mac, or *nix (any UNIX, Linux variants) . How do you like it? and why did/did not you upgrade? I'll keep the poll going for 10 days

I'm running vista on the hp and windows 7 on the asus.I'm finding that 7 takes full advantage of the 64bit system with dual quadcores.

XP Pro on desktop and laptop, Ubuntu 9.10 desktop, Ubuntu server. I have no intention of upgrading and feeding the folks in Redmond any longer. Next purchase for me will be the iMac, that's a sweet machine, I like their OS X Cheetah and Snow Leopard. I use the XP and Ubuntu because they work and are stable and I do not need to upgrade my hardware to accommodate the latest and greatest marketing blunder from MS. I'm currently using 64 bit Vista on my deskktop and 32 bit on my laptop. I will be upgrading soon however I always wait a few months to let MS work out kinks. I always love the new environments. Last edited on Fri Jan 8th, 2010 02:23 pm by Budabear ____________________

XP on home office computer (where I do most of my work). I have a computer in the kitchen with VISTA, and I can't stand VISTA! I don't use the computer much at all! I will NOT buy Windows 7! My next computer WILL be a MAC . . . no doubt about it! I learned computing on MACs, back in the mid-80's, then switched to PC and Microcrap Windows.

Windows 7 on new laptop and 5 year old desktop. Works fine on both but can't see much difference from XP Pro on the desktop machine. Switched my daughter's laptop from Vista to Win 7 and it runs a lot faster with fewer interruptions. Worth the upgrade cost according to her. For care-free individuals, I'm told that Windows 7 is available in torrent form but you need a strong anti-virus program to safely get it. As many bad things I've said about Microsoft over the years, I like this newest version of Windows. They seem to have done it right this time.

Jackprime1 wrote: XP on my dell desktop and Vista on my Gateway laptop...What do you think about windows 7?At home I have been using Win 7 on my i7 Quad core desktop and on one of my laptops in 64 bit mode since the first ALPHA release. (I also have 3 other systems running *nix variants which are constantly being upgraded). At work (Fed Gov) Windows 2003 servers and XP Pro workstations. I have found Win 7 to be one , if not the, best OS that Microsoft has released to date. Aside from the "eye candy" in the user interface, which I find really nice and worth a few CPU cycles, it's what is "under the hood" that is really impressive. The stability was amazing for an ALPHA release I can honestly say that the ALPHA Win 7 was at least, if not more, stable as the final version of Vista ! The actual retail release version of Win 7 is as stable as Win 2000 was (one of the best ever) and more stable and more compatible than XP. The features that I have found to be of the most useful include:
But I digress ! To sum it all up my personal opinion is that Win 7 is a home run for Microsoft and it will stand side by side with the other “best-of-the-best” Operating Systems like Snow Leopard (MAC Linux based OS), and Sun’s Unix Based Graphics System, but will penetrate the Enterprise level ( Virtual Machines, Multi-core Servers,Win 7 work stations) much much more than the others while still being shipped with home systems and laptops from Dell, HP, Levino etc. as the standard. I also am very interested in seeing what happens in the hot re-energized Tablet/Note-Pad/Multi-touch market. Based on the amount of attention and product introductions at CES it looks like the next "in" technology.
