Can anyone offer an opinion on a Citizen Chrono-Time A-T Model BY0006-50E?

All Citizens are solid well built watches, if you find one you like at the price you want. Buy it.

Tattoo Chef,

Thanks for your reply.  I've been a Seiko wearer for years and may have to take a replacement watch for my repair shop destroyed watch.

The Citizen watch is a closer match to my old Seiko's features than the new Seikos.  I needed to find some watch alternatives seeing that repair parts seem to be unavailable for my Seiko.

Take Care

Hey View, I have the same 4008 and want to know, see the four bars just to the left of the day dial? It shows about 1/4 red which I think means the cell is 1/4 charged. Is that right? If so, why doesn't it ever move to full? I've exposed it to bright sunlight for about one hour (driving) and it seems to stay at 1/4 charge. Seems strange.
Also, I took my collection out of my gun safe tonight. Mostly to look at the collection and to do a little surface cleaning. When I got to my Citizen I noticed it was running and right to the second with my wall atomic clock. I wonder how in the world the Colorado signal reached my watch surrounded by heavy solid steel? It had been in the safe about three weeks.

Depending on the electronic movement model, a fully charged secondary power cell could run with no further charging anywhere from 30 days to 3,175 days (8.7 years), though most Eco-Drive men's watch models offer a six-month power reserve. If kept in the dark for too long, some Eco-Drive movement models engage a hibernate mode, where the hands of the watch stop running but the internal quartz movement still keeps track of time. If an ample supply of light is given, the hands move to the proper positions and resume regular timekeeping.(Taken from Wikipedia)

Thanks TC. The 4008 does not have a battery, it has a cell that is charged by any type of light source. I don't know if my model has that hibernate feature. It might, but when I took it out I didn't see any movements of the hands. But then again, I wasn't looking.

Hey Eddie, pretty sure it has a battery. Think you might be a little confused as to what and how the Eco Drive works.

Eco-Drive type watches are equipped with a special titanium lithium ion secondary battery that is charged by an amorphous silicon solar cell located behind the dial. The titanium lithium-ion composition precludes it from being affected from the regular charge/discharge cycle of other types of rechargeable batteries.Light passes through the covering crystal and dial before it reaches the solar cell.

Got it. It does have a battery, but not the typical ones found in quartz powered watches. It is a titanium lithium-ion battery which I doubt anyone here has ever seen.
Curiously, I find the 5-year warranty a little odd. Here is what I found: "Citizen warrants this watch, (except the power cell, case and its components, including crystal, stem, crown, bracelet and its components, including clasp, links, pins, screws, strap and its components or any accessories) to be free of defects in material and workmanship and to meet the timekeeping accuracy specification in the instructions for a period of 5 years from the date of the original retail purchase."
LOL, just what part of the watch has a warranty?

I have the same problem on all 5 eco watchs

You made need to correct the hand settings its best to do a full  reset and check the alignment of all the hands.  Your manual will explain how to do this.

Kind regards

Puddy

Spaceview,

As a settlement for my damaged Seiko watch, I accepted a Citizen AT4010-50E watch.  It is the titanium version of the first watch you pictured.

I have a question.

When setting the watch and turning the crown, the hands do not function like a normal watch.  The hands hardly move at times, they move on their own at times and I can feel clicking when turning the crown.  Sometimes the crown can be rotated 30 or 40 times and the hands will only move the equivalent of one or two minutes.  I did get the watch set but, is this normal?

Thanks

Titanium

They warantee the movement. I had one replaced for free within the five years.

Yes, that is normal. This is an atomic clock controlled watch so it is meant to be set when it syncs with the atomic clock each night.  Citizen has very good manuals.  Check this out.....

I think the caliber is the E650 for this one.  You can check on the caseback.  The instructions are here.  Depending where you live you should be able to see the atomic clock.  I have had the best success letting the watch sync itself overnight.

Spaceview,

Thank you for your reply and for the link.  I set the watch by the CD and I feared that something was wrong with it.
