Hey all,

So, our long awaited NY trip is around the corner and I thought I´d see with you all, where in NY you might think it would be worth while to go and scout pre-owned watches?

Furthermore, I have done some interweb searches on places to eat, Blue Smoke & The Counter got good reviews, but what else would you recommend for a food loving carnivore?

Appreciate your help planning a great visit...

-Marko

Dont know where to look for prewoned watches, but will say check out Tourneau on 57th street, and of course you have to check out the Breitling Boutique.

As far as food, check out Les Halles. Classic french food and is a great place.

If you like BBQ, good barbeque, check out Virgils on Times Square.

For some awesome burger and shake experience, go to Marks and grab yourself some sliders and an espresso or Guinness shake.

When are you coming into NY?

Hey Tattoo Chef,
(the chef with a lot of tattoo´s, if my memory serves me right)

You hit my sweet spot with Virgil´s. Brisket, pulled pork, ribs, burgers and all kinds of sandwiches will keep me going.

Arriving May 11 and back on the 16th.

Have a great trip. Chef's advice is great. My favorite meal spot in the city is The Palm. A bit on the pricy side but it never disappoints.

Yes it is. He used to be the executive chef years ago .
The food is still awesome though.

Yeah, D.C. Carlos Llaguno is the executive chef now. He worked for Tony when he was executive chef.

I remember hearing on "No Reservations" that he started out as a dishwasher there.

If you walk down 47th street between 5th and 6th avenue, you will find many little shops within the buildings. Tons of pre- owned watches. Prices are negotiable but to be honest, if you find a watch you are interested in, have them crack it open and make sure it is legit. There are tons of watch repair places in that are which will open it up for you to verify.

If you want good progressive mexican cuisine try Suenos on 17th St between 8th & 9th avenues in Chelsea. The chef (and Iron Chef contestant) Sue Torres is a friend of mine. Great food and a reasonable price. And the tequila list is killer!

Thanks all for your input on places to eat and where to scout for pre-owned watches. I´m especially thrilled about Virgil´s BBQ, as I had not spotted that earlier even though I had been doing some interweb searching.

I´m very confident that we will have a very nice getaway to NY.

Keep on throwing ideas, as there´s nothing that beats first hand experiences from fellow freeks.

Hey all,

Been meaning to write back on the forum after coming back from NY, but in between I´ve already been in Singapore for a week, so business has kept me from attending to leisure...

First off, loved the whole feel of Manhattan. Everyone where polite and service-minded, none of the tv-series/movies obnoxities that we foreigners are fed through TV.

I did not get to do much watch-scrolling as the missus pretty much spent our budget during the first days on both Manhattan as well as the day-tour to Woodbury Commons.

Food was great! Virgils BBQ had proper good pulled pork, Blue Smoke´s ribs and especially the mac&cheese was simply spectacular. Never had as creamy and silky smooth mac&cheese before.

I think the Counters concept and location are great, not to forget that the burgers where really good as well.

We also had some Indian at Darbar on 46th and that was great as well.

I could easily say that I would be struggling not to gain 30lbs within a month, if I´d be in NYC that long. Although all the walking we did during those 5 days did balance everything.

Looking forward to coming back to the US again.
