Well my Steinhart Ocean 2 came in today and unfortunately it has to go back.

After the watches were shipped out someone on WUS noticed that the numbers on the bezel insert dont line up with the notches on the edge of the bezel itself. Steinhart, replying to the post answered by stating that some of the watches went out like this. They didnt think to tell their 2 watchmakers to line them up. One guy did, the other didnt. I kept my fingers crossed as it made its way across the ocean but unfortunately I got one of the bad ones. (After dealing with customs for an extra day, might I add)  So, I sent off an email this afternoon and now I wait for the ever elusive Steinhart response.

Now I have to decide if I want a refund or a fix. Steinhart said that anyone who has this problem, along with the fix will get the SS bracelet that they are making for this model for free when it comes out in a few months. This sweetens the sting a little, I guess. Its a cool watch and I dig it but QC misses like this just bums me out. It takes a little luster out of the watch if you know what I mean. Makes me feel like I'm dealing with the big yellow "I" - lol.

Meh, I guess I'll sleep on it and hope I have an answer in the morning. <sigh>:WW

Here's a pic from the Steinhart site from a glamour shot they didnt even notice. (I packed mine back up right away for the return trip) You can see how the numbers dont line up to the notches on the bezel. This is exactly how mine is.

Just send it back and get them to fix it AND the free bracelet.

Almost ALL brands have occasionally had stuff like this happen. Sounds like they are giving you a sweet deal on the fix with the free bracelet.

That is what I would do.

My opinion. Mistakes happen. I know it always sucks when we are anticipating a new watch and it comes in messed up, but no one or no company is perfect.
I say send it back, have it replaced, have them remburse you for shipping, and then wait in a cool free $100 bracelet.

In the end, because if a mix up, you'll get a bracelet you originally were not going to have, for the same price.
In a few weeks you'll have the watch back.

Keep us updated on the return process.

It always sucks when you get something you have been looking forward to in the mail and it is not right, but the free bracelet would for sure make me happier lol.

If you still like the watch, I would have it repaired.  The free bracelet is kudos!

I know how much it sucks to wait! I just had something similar happen with a timepiece. I wore it from my house to the post office to return it...took 10 days or so to get it back but the CS was great and they repaired the brand new piece free of cost and refunded me shipping costs. IMHO do it and take the bracelet!

It will make it that much better to wait a bit longer and get what you paid for plus some!

With the bracelet in the deal, I'd be tempted to get it fixed too.
I was a fan of Steinhart myself and owned several but had issues with two I bought new and there have been too many QC issues with them in the last year or so, I decided to stop buying from them and I don't want to deal with non US returns even if they pay. I like the US presence personally.
They have gotten big fast and both quality and communications have suffered. I may buy one used though if I want one bad enough ? :) they do always make it right in the end though.

Well, after sleeping on it and letting my disappointment wane a bit, I am off to Fedex to ship it back to have it fixed. Steinhart got back to me and gave me their Fedex account number. A free bracelet IS worth the extra time and hassle.

I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.

Think in the end you´ll be grateful one guy at Steinhart didn´t know what he was doing. Always liked free stuff...

That is a good looker, and with a bracelet to change the look every now and then, it should be a good offer.

Good luck.

Looking forward to hearing how things go for you. I would have gone with the "repair" option, too!! :)
