I have a Citizen Digi-Ana watch that I bought in 1979 per the warranty booklet. It is still in perfect working condition with excellent contrast in the LCD digital display. I have been amazed that it has lasted this well as most LCDs lose contrast as they age. The manual lists it as a caliber 8900 and model 41-9xxx. This watch has a analog dial in the lower left of the case and LCD displays available for both digital watch, calendar and 1/100 second chronograph functions. The case is Tonneau shape. It also has an item I have not seen on any other quartz watch, a separate cover for the battery compartment that can be opened with a coin to allow battery replacement without removing the whole watch back. I LOVE that feature and wish that it was on all quartz watches which require periodic battery changes. Does anyone know of an older LCD display watch that is still working well? This one is still running like a champ!

I am a lousy photographer but below is a link to the tech manual for the watch which includes a very poor photo and some much clearer drawings. About a 550K download. http://www.citizenwatch.com/downloads/techguides/8900.pdf It amazes me that Citizen still has it available on line.

If you´re talking about the one with only four digits on the display, model 41-9052, no, i don´t know about any older one. I recently found some real treasures at a watchmaker´s, but not from 1979.

Michael; Mine is actually the 41-9010 model per the back cover stamped model number. It may be a USA model as the date display is month-day rather than the normal European preferred day-month sequence. It is 4 digits in the main LCD display and two alphanumerics (seconds or day of week) in the smaller LCD window. Functions are time, calendar and 1/100 second stopwatch. I also have a Heuer Chronosplit LCD watch in perfect working order and it is a year or so older than the Citizen as I bought it in 1978. Having one of those still working is apparently relatively rare per a web site I ran across.
