History(Direct from Irreantum Watch):  The Irreantum Watch Company was founded in 2009 by Matt and Courtney Wilson.  Their goal was to design a high quality dive watch that was rugged, functional and affordable.  The Irreantum Magellan is the result with the hope of many more to come.  "The Water Is Waiting".  Irreantum ancient South Semitic word meaning "many waters".

First Impressions:  This version of the Magellan is not my first but my first impression was exactly the same.  First thing that came to mind was DOXA homage at a more affordable price point.  The blue dial just popped and immediately caught my eye as well as the stunning bracelet.  Fantastic looking diver.

Packaging:  The packaging was on par with many other dive watches offerings using a black pelican case with foam cushioning on the inside to more than adequately protect the Magellan.  Very high quality and not too oversized so it won't take up to much space.  Irreantum name and logo nicely displayed on the front of the case.

Case (Crown Side):  Crown side of the case shows the contrast of the nicely brushed and high polished case side along with the approximately 7mm signed crown resting at the 4 position.  Crown is gear shaped for easy grasp.  The crown has no play and is extremely smooth when winding the movement.  The case lug to lug measures approximately 48mm.  Seems to be a really nice size for most wrists.  The case is also machined with lug holes for easier strap changes but I'm not sure why anyone would want to take this fantastic bracelet of the watch.

Case (Non Crown Side):  Again this view allows one to see the contrast of the brushed and high polished areas of the case.  This view provides a great view of the bezel which is slightly raised from the case.

Bezel, Dial and Hands:  Bezel is approximately 41mm in diameter with no insert.  The bezel edge is well machined and extremely easy to grasp and turn.  The bezel produces nice even and distinct clicks when rotating.  The bezel is also machined with numbers 5 thru 55 and dot markers at each minute position without a number except at the lume pip at the 12 position.  The 120 click unidirectional rotating bezel is both extremley smooth and legible.  The dial opening is approximately 32mm and reveals a eye popping vibrant blue dial.  The dial is extremely clean and free of unnecessary clutter.  Large C3 Superluminova markers rest at each hour position surrounding the dial and the white with black numbers date window rests at the 3 position.  The Irreantum company name is printed on the dial just below the 12 position.  The hands are beautiful Roman Sword shaped in style.  The minute hand is slightly larger than the hour hand and is outlined in orange providing a great contrast of color on the dial.  The second hand is orange tipped making it much easier to verify its exact position on the dial.  All hands are coated extremely well with C3 Superluminova as well.

Case Back:  The case back is high polished with brushed central section.  Various Magellan specifications are notated around the perimeter such as name, model, company name, and water resistance.  The high polished company logo is nicely machined into the brushed central portion of the case back providing another nice contrast between the polished and brushed finishes on the Magellan.  Of note since this provides a good view or the back of the bracelet links you will see that the link backs have a high polished finish which I find to be an extremely nice detail and touch provided by Irreantum.

Strap/Bracelet:  One of the nicer bracelets provided by a micro brand watch company.  The 22mm non-tapering bracelet has a nice contrast of brushed outer links with high polished beads of rice central to the links.  The appearance provides a multi-link mirage.  The rounded links measure approximately 4mm in center thickness and are connected using friction pins.  The clasp is high quality and the type of clasp that should in my opinion be found on any diver produced.  The clasp is a dual push button which provides just as much safety again in my opinion as a standard diver's flip lock with safety.  The greatness of this clasp is that it rachets in order to obtain precise sizing on the wrist or over a wet suit.  The racheting part of the clasp is also dual push button to provide maximum safety.  The only improvement that I would like to see in the bracelet area is for Irreantum to consider using screws in the future to connect links.

Lume:  The Magellan has large amounts of C3 Superluminova on the dial and provides well above average lume.  Below is after short exposure to standard lighting.  The afterglow I would say was surprising as it lasted for hours as I was still able to adequately tell the time at 6am the following morning.

Summary:  Irreantum set out with the goal to design a high quality dive watch that was rugged, functional and affordable.  I believe they have reached that goal easily with the Magellan.  The Magellan has a great look and as I mentioned earlier has some appearance similarities to a much more expensive brand with the same rugged look.  Irreantum in the Magellan provides a 500m water resistant diver with an ETA 2824 automatic movement, sapphire crystal, screw down crown, and very good lume.  It appears the Magellan will provide great functionality and not break the bank.

I would like to thank the owners of Irreantum and Thomas Carey for working with Watch Freeks and providing the Magellan for the review so that I could discuss as honestly as possible how I feel about this diver.  I hope you enjoyed the review and as always I look forward to your thoughts and comments.  Thanks for reading.

Video Part 1 and 2 - Apologies for not mentioning the ETA 2824 movement and it is more appropriately a 60 second bezel.

Nice review Mike. I have always liked this watch and its overall style. I am not personally really a fan of the bracelet style though.

Great pictures and info.

I've owned this watch (same dial color) for over a year now. Another "keeper" in my collection. Nice review Mike, but your lume pic doesn't show how serious the lume is on this piece, IMO. One of the best I have. :)

I agree on the lume. It is very good. Short exposure quick shot. I will attempt another soon after some prolonged light exposure.

I was looking at this exact watch last night on CGA's web site.

https://www.thecgacompany.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=19&zenid=2eaa356f8cc0b2e17b0f6a020adba42c

I may ask Santa for this one for Christmas. I love this clasp and I've often said that this one or one like it should be on every dive watch. Great review and thanks for all the hard work.

Thanks also goes out to Irreantum and Thomas Carey.

Now if I could only find a coupon code.......

Added the brief videos to the review.  My apologies for not mentioning the ETA 2824 mvt and the bezel is more appropriately known as a 60 second bezel.  Thanks for looking and reading.

Hello Thomas,

I am attempting to proceed to the sale on this watch and check out the discount code that you have put through. I am unable to proceed past the shipping address part of the sale.

It is saying:

"We are unable to find a USPS shipping quote suitable for your mailing address and the shipping methods we typically use.
If you prefer to use USPS as your shipping method, please contact us for assistance."

I guess you guys don't ship to Canada??? :whatever: :o

We do ship to Canada. This is an issue that I am still trying to figure out as some can order from Canada and some can not. We did not used to have an issue at all. I did bring an expert to build us a new site on a new host based on the same software but with additional mod's. Also between myself and the current host programming errors have been made to the existing site which I believe is the root of the problem.

If you would like you can PayPal funds to me directly pm or email me at cga@thecgacompany.com and will sort out something that will get the job done for you. =)

I know that most response to these reviews are congratulatory or further reinforcing the appreciated "qualities" of the watch.  I would like to differ a little from that.  I do appreciate the ETA 2824.  I like it better than the Miyota 8215 if for no other reason than the ETA's winding mechanism does a better job of keeping the watch wound... which is extremely important in an automatic movement.

I wish all of my opinion on the Magellan was as favorable.  The only other aspect of the watch that I like is the case back.  I honestly wish the rest of the watch had that same exciting "splash" to the design.  The plain blue face and the flat lifeless geometric designs for the markers complemented by color clashing painted minute and hour hands make it hard for me to want to wear this watch.  I am not a fan of the elevated machined bezel which seems awkwardly separated from the base (and thus just protruding out in space to get caught on something).

Let me close with a positive word though.  I love the bracelet and clasp...
