I have bee trying to take some really good pictures of my watches and dont feel that Im making much progress with the wrist shots. A friend of mine helped me make a little "studio out of some lights and different boxes which work pretty good for staged shots. Alot of you guys are putting up some awesome wrist shots and I need to know what you are using or doing that Im not. Right now I am using a Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS. Help a brother out and share some of your secrets.

It's really rather easy once you get the hang of it. You need a camera that has a macro function if you want close-ups. The real key is to be steady. A tripod helps. If your camera lets you do both macro and delay then you are really in business. Set the camera on the tripod. Set the mode to macro and delay. Place your wrist in front of the lens. An overcast day outdoors provides great results as it filters the light and avoids shadows. Then release the shutter and hold your wrist still until the camera clicks. That should do it.

Noticed on your Oris shot today that the lighting is reflecting off of the crystal. Take a bit more care to prevent this by using either natural light but not directly letting the sun hit it or for indoors, use a light box of sorts with the lighting outside the box. Hope that helps a bit as well. LOL ........... I remember when I was havin alot of trouble with closeups and the big joke around here was that I had the macro feature (denoted by the "little flower") and didn't know it. I took some serious ribbing for that .............................. all in fun.

I use a Kodak easy Share in macro mode for all my online watch shots. I have also started to take some 'action' wrist shots in the car with my cell phone. Usually about 1 of 10 of the live shots is good and 9 of 10 of the ones with my Kodak. don't be afraid to hit the button it's all digital...as already stated the secret is to have enough light (but not direct), be still and to watch for reflections on the crystal. Also I blow mine off with canned air to remove dust right before and sometimes during a shoot. Black dials are the hardest and white dials are easy. Here is a picture taken with an LG Ally cell phone with no special settings, just to prove you can take good pictures even with a cell phone....![]()

I was going to mention you in my post as an an example of improvement....but I knew the compliment would go to your head.
