Cool! Good thst this one didn't explode... Amazing to imagine space (a place outside the atmosphere) is only a few hundred miles away, much closer than what people on average drive to visit their family or friends....

This is really cool. Too bad they are moving away from the shuttle launches. But I guess they will still be launching satellites down at the Cape.

About 20 years ago my brother and I were flying from San Diego to San Jose. A few minutes after take-off the pilot came on the speaker and said that there was a planned ICBM launch out of Vandenberg AFB and that she would try to time the flight to be there as the missile was launched. With perfect timing the aircraft was there as we witnessed the bright flash as it lifted off it's pad. Luckily we were seated on the left side of the airplane. She banked slight left so we could get a better view of the ignition. The missile then proceeded to go almost straight up to about the same altitude as the aircraft. Just as it reached our altitude it banked towards the west and as it did so the sky around it gave off brilliant colors that we learned later was a result of air crystals being burned, or something like that. The missile continued on a steady westward direction finally disappearing into the distance. It was a sight I'll never forget.

Very, very, vey sad..... All that time and money spent building the INTL space station, and now we are going to have to beg for a ride to get there.... I hope there is a bigger plan NASA just hasn't shared yet....

Great post!!!

Nasa is no longer a priority. They are lowering funding, and spending tax money bailing out banks, and teeling us its too expensive to go to space these days.

Sorry, this is a bitter thing for me. It just disgusts me.

Port St. Johns to Melbourne will turn into a "desert".  Thousands of jobs lost:(.
