Elkabong Is it Beer-Thirty Yet?
|
Just purchased this watch recently from another forum and was wondering if one of you guys could shed some light on the specs. The only paperwork I received was the warranty card showing the date it was purchased. I have seen conflicting information regarding the movement on this Ocean 1 Classic Edition watch. It's an earlier model, purchased in February of '08. I've seen some listings on various forums say it has a sw200 movement and others say it has an ETA 2824-2 movement. I guess I could crack the case to get a definitive answer, but what's your opinion? BTW, I had contacted Debaufre on an unrelated item, but posed the question to them and they said it should be an ETA movement. Also, I believe the magnifier has been removed by the previous owner, too (I don't think they sold them this way).![]() ![]() Last edited on Sat Feb 12th, 2011 08:04 pm by Elkabong ____________________

I really dont think there is a way to know....If Debaufre couldnt tell you for sure, then I guess the only way to know for sure is to pop the caseback off.

Well, curiosity got the better of me and I popped the case to look inside. Lo and behold, it is the SW200 movement. From what I can surmise, during this period of time, Debaufre (as well as other watch manufacturers) had a hard time securing ETA movements and consequently, used these mechanisms instead. I really like this watch a lot and think it was well worth the price I paid. I even like the watch without the cyclops. The date is actually very clear and more than adequate for the dial size, so I don't see any downside. On a totally unrelated note, I happened to talk to their CS to obtain an additional link (it's a little on the tight side for my wrist) and asked them about any new products. They told me they will be unveiling a new pilot watch design this year and that hopefully, will be unveiling an updated design of their Ocean line later in the year. Nice to hear something new from this awesome watch company.

Beautiful watch regardless of the movement. I have owned many SW200 movements and they are every bit as reliable/accurate as the ETA 2824-2. I love that green bezel against the black dial. Congrats on this bad boy.

I had a SW200 movement that was DOA in an Invicta. Hmmm......., maybe I shouldn't be too hard on Sellita after all. So far, the Sellita in the Ocean is +6 seconds a day. Thanks for the kind words, though.
