Hey Freeks. I am going to Disney on Sunday for 1 week. We are staying in the park at Caribbean resort. My question to everyone is do i need to rent a car or will it be convenient enough to get around on the trolley and buses? Keep in mind I have a 4 year old son.  Please take the poll:

All I can tell you Jack is that if you're gonna stay within the park, I wouldn't bother with a car.  Plenty of transportation without it.  Now when we went we were in and out of the park so a car came in handy. JMHO. Hope this helps.

Thanks Arnie. We just need to leave the park once to have dinner one night and can take a cab. The rest of the stay will be in the park.

Jack . . . if you're staying within the park, I would skip the rental. We rarely used ours while there and probably only used it, just to use it.

I hope you have fun . . . it's one of my all-time favorite places to go! :c

Thanks rick. I'm probably going to cancel the car rental. Probably more of a hassle than anything.

As long as you are staying on the property you shouldn't need a car unless you want to venture to one of the off site restaurants. Food can be pricey on property and there are some deals at the local places but not enough to make renting a car worth it, IMO!

No car. You are there to stay on property anyway. no car and use that money on the incredibly overpriced Disney stuff you are going to have to buy, lol

I'm going to take the opposite approach....I own Disney Vacation Club and we are in Disney world 4 times a year...I rent a car.

We pick up a few things for breakfast at Walmart....Cereal, milk, yougurt, fruit...saves $40 per day on Breakfast. We leave the park a couple of times for dinner at Carrabbas or Bahama Breeze...better food and better prices than Disney.

The Dinosaur Restaurant you are talking about sounds like the one in Downtown Disney....you can get a bus or a boat from any resort or any park. If you are staying on site you get free parking at any park....I can get from our Disney Resort to any park in under 15 minutes.....bus ride is easily 45-60 minutes each way  and the ride home with the crying kids, don`t mind missing that. Also we wll sneak out of a park, go to Bob Evans and grab a nicer lunch for half the price and be back or hop to another park in about the same time as waiting in a Disney line up.

You don`t need a car....but it`s worth it IMHO.

Oh...you've bought the meal plan.

No Car....Forget it.

You may want to check out the Restaurant at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort....I think you can use your dinner plan and get one hell of a nice steak dinner....like a really great steak dinner....for your dinner ticket.

A friend of mine did the meal plan and really if you play your cards right you will be eating well.

Enjoy...and best to you and your boy.

Rob

Thanks Rob I appreciate that. Can't wait to go. Its beautiful for the holidays. My wife is a shark and made sure are going to the best restaurants. The room we are staying in is a pirate room with pirate ship beds...my son loves pirates and is going to go crazy.
