In a word...Yes! The wife and I loved the Bahamas. This was our first cruise and we enjoyed it so much that we are already talking about taking another one next year with the kids.

We started off in Charleston, SC, got there a day early just to look around the city since I had never been there. Great place. Beautiful old historic buildings, many of which have been converted into cafes, shops and offices. Horse drawn carriage tours are big there, unfortunately we didn't decide to take one in time and missed out. So we were pretty much on our own as far as navigating the city went.

We got on the ship the next morning and left port around 4PM. Our first cruise day was a day at sea and didn't involve much other than laying in a deck chair and occasionally wandering to the buffet to gorge ourselves.

Next up was Freeport/Lucaya Bahamas. I was honestly surprised...there isn't a whole lot on the island until you get down to where the resorts are, which is 11 miles from where the cruise ships dock. However, when you do get to where the ships dock it is very nice indeed. There is a HUGE Westin resort and a couple of other smaller resorts. The marketplace is just across the street from the Westin. It has several cafes, tons of shops and a "straw market". The straw market is the place to go for your t-shirts, trinkets, doo-dads and other souveniers. They expect you to haggle with them and you can literally get an armload of stuff for about $50. The coolest thing I found in the straw market was the guy that was doing hand carved canes, walking sticks and various other things. We stayed in his booth for about 20 minutes just talking to him while he carved a gorgeous lamp base. I bought a walking stick from him for $25, which would easily go for much more if you bought it in the States at a store(see pictures)

The next day was in Nassau Bahamas. Again, I was shocked. At 8AM there was bumper to bumper traffic on Bay street, which is the main shopping district, and it stayed that way all day. We signed up for a tour of the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island and stayed there for pretty much the whole time we were in port. It's hard to describe the Atlantis, you'll just have to see the pics.

The last day was another day at sea and another day of laying in a deck chair and stuffing yourself silly with food.

These are some of the pics off of my camera. My wife is real photographer of the two of us, and I will try to get some of her shots added when I download all of her photos.

On to the pics:

The first few are of Charleston. Several of King street, the marina and Rainbow Road.

This next one is the Confedarate House which was started during the Civil War as a place for widows and orphans of the war to come and live.

This shot is of St Michael's Church cemetery. It has some graves that date back to 1700.

The next few shots are of the Battery area. This where the first battle of the Civil War took place at Fort Sumter. The first shot is of a private residence, my wife just thought that it was a beautiful house and made me get a shot of it.

The next 2 are of the Charleston skyline from the top deck of the ship and a pod of dolphins that were swimming and playing next to the ship while we were in port.

On to Freeport. Like I said, not much there until you get to the resorts. These are some shots of the Westin resort, the beach, the marketplace and my new walking stick.

On to Nassau. The first few are of some house that are literally built a few feet away from the ocean on a strip of land that seperates the harbor from the sea. And a shot of Atlantis taken from the ship.

All of the next shots are of Atlantis. The first pic is of the original Atlantis where they filmed parts of Dr. No and Scarface.

The next few are of the lobby at Atlantis. The domed ceiling is layered in 18kt gold.

The next 4 are of sculptures made by glass artist Dale Chihuly and cost a million dollars each. These were the only things you were allowed to photograph in the casino. They are called, in order, the crystal gate, the sun, the moon and the stars.

Next, it's off to the aquarium that Atlantis is famous for. Several different species of sharks, barracudas, grouper and all kinds of tropical fish.

The above shot is "back" of the towers and the main building. The Bridge Suite that connects the towers will run you $25,000 a night. But we were told it comes with 24 hour butler, chef and massage service included in that price.:whatever:

And last are a few of the "towel animals" that our room steward made for us. Every night when we got back from dinner, the bed was turned down and one of these critters was waiting on us.

So that was the Bahamas for us. Well, some of it anyway. Thanks for looking.

Very nice pics, I regret not being able to visit the Atlantis when my family wnet on our cruise a couple of years ago. And I see that all cruise ships do that with your towels. Did the make you a monkey one? They did that on our Disney cruise. But they didn't do the lobster one for us.

Thanks I needed that. Looks like a wonderful time. At 24K a night, I would definitely be in the NBZ.

No, they didn't do a monkey. I've been trying to remember what the other 2 they made for us were. Those 2 pics are on my wife's camera. I'm pretty sure one was a seal and the other was a rabbit.
