Default New Mako USA II landed!

Well they originally indicated there wasn't going to another USA Mako, but they kinda told a half truth. They've released an updated version with the new hand-winding, hacking F6922 movement instead. Still has the same solid end links and sapphire crystal. Not sure if it's a limited edition though. Street price is $375 US. Don't know if they will offer a discount in the future, but don't surprised to see that they will exempt this from future deals like they did with the original USA model. Stay tuned!

Congrats to Orient, they have finally put together a watch that is lacking nothing.

The only way they could upgrade now is having a ceramic bezel!

Solid. I'll wait for the 40-50% off coupon.

Thanks, #4!

Rockypoint, I think the positive comments are well-founded. The watch is comfortable and has excellent fit and finish. Exceptional for this price range. And the new hand-winding movement is very nice indeed. Accurate and easy to start back up after having been off the wrist for a while. 20-25 winds and it's ready to go back into circulation.

Orient is such a little microcosm of the watch world. One could easily own 8-10 of their watches and span pretty much every conceivable major style.

Right now, I'm working on their divers. A brand new Mako II will hit the box tomorrow. I wanted this model particularly for the Arabic 6, 9, and 12.

What's the difference between this and the RayII? I have one on the way and was wondering.

Between the Mako II USA and the Ray II? Here's what I see when comparing the specs.

* Crystal: Mako (sapphire), Ray (mineral glass)
* Major hour markers: Mako (pentagonal 6, 9, double stick 12), Ray (stick 6, 9, wide stick 12)
* Minor hour markers: Mako (stick), Ray (dot)
* The hour and minute hands are also different
* Mako has basic Sub-style bracelet, Ray has sub-style but with satin/mirror decoration of the center links

Functionally, it comes down to the sapphire crystal. Aesthetically, the difference is in the minor hour markers and bracelet. Both are well-proportioned and otherwise quite similar.

Mako USA has better Numento (spelling?) luminescence painted markers and also has solid end links on the bracelet.
