My home computers got hit real bad and Time Warner (my internet provider) shut down my internet connection until we fixed the problem. We got everything back up and running using the software shown on the following page.

EVERYONE should be VERY careful right now as there is a VERY nasty Trojan hitting the entire internet. They told me that they have never seen it this bad. Never is the exact word they used.

See this link - http://www.twccarolinas-security.com/

I followed all of the steps and install many of the different programs to finally clean our 3 computers at my house.

Was an enormous pain, but had to be done.

What symptoms did you have? How did you know you were infected? What virus software where you running before the attack?

I had no idea. No one does and that is what makes the current virus crushing the net so bad. It uses your computer to send out millions of spam emails like Viagra and other things like that. Time Warner caught it because one of my computers sent out MASSIVE amounts of spam on 3 different occasions and they shut me down hard. I am still scanning all 3 machines right now. It is incredible how much stuff Malwarebytes and Avast are finding. Scary.

I use Symantec Endpoint Protection, and it seem to catch everything that comes along. I do keep up with the latest definitions via auto update. I don't run any other malware protection of any kind as they tend to create false alarms. I did use McAfee for a year till it expired with success also.

Ding.

One of the preventions for this type of virus is to be aware of your modem/router lights. They show TX (transmit) activity and when you are not sending anything it will normally flicker every few seconds for normal TCP/IP activity. if it is showing some major activity (like steady on) and you weren't sending anything, you have a problem. ususally in the form of e-mail floods. Most e-mail floods are part of a co-ordinated attack from many infected machines. These attacks are most commonly a "Denial of Service " attack, trying to overwhelm the recipient of all of the floods to close down the targets' communications ability.

OUCH !!!! I'm surprised AVG didn't see the virus coming in. You might want to install "Startupcop" which monitors activity on the registry and notifies you when something is entering/deleting/modifying auto start programs. I've caught 2 attemts from e-mail attatchments and freebee software.

This has now been a 2 day nightmare. Literally a mess. and add into it our office's servers and it is just bouncing around with everyone.

The problem with this virus is that when you go to a site infected with this you never know it. You don't have to click on anything or do anything - it just enters your system and infects it.

Very hard to remove.
