I have seen these Tom. Interesting if they can compete with their Chinese counterparts in this price range. Not a fan of their designs but for the price I am sure they will sell.
Just like all "automatic" mechanical watches. A weighted wheel rotates around a fixed pin and is connected via a gear train to the main spring winding it as one's wrist moves.
The price range is perfect and the concept is innovative. These designs are not exactly for the watch enthusiasts, but as usual the market is much bigger than our little corner of it. I'm sure Swatch could move these into designs that sell across their entire line, which as we know is huge. I will keep an eye on these, I think we all be surprised where they popup in the future.
Well, I like the newness of it but let's be real here. It's a disposable auto made totally by machines that can be in any factory in the world, doing the same job, but because they are in Switzerland they are Swiss made watches.
Would I get one, no, not with the design of this watch itself, right now. Have fun getting a replacement strap for it.
If they put the movement into a more traditional watch, depends on the price.
The more I read about this new movement, the less interested I'm in it, and I was very exited to hear about this when they first made them public.
I agree, but I am wondering more if they will phase out the cheap quartz movements for cheap auto's instead.
I'd be hard pressed to buy a Swatch anyway, they just aren't my style. I am intrigued by the business and manufacturing direction they are going with this though.
Really interesting seems like they are very similar to the new Anti-magnetic Omega Aqua Terra. I know they developed it with others and they are part of Swatch group. This seems great. Would really love to own one of these, maybe just for the movement.
There are some negatives to this watch -- strap in particular as has been mentioned.
With all of that, I would be a big fan of having the ability to pick up a fashion auto watch that was not an investment.
I love something like a Cave Dweller as my Summer, short sleeved watch -- or an orange faced diver as my pop, attention grabbing watch -- but those are usually investments that I loose money on when I get bored and flip.
I'm sure that i'll keep flipping watches, but it would be pretty cool to have a couple of watches that were interesting but not worth enough to be seen as avenues to other watches.
Maybe my watch habit is uncommonly money detrimental, but I think there are others out there like me.
Not exactly my cup of tea, but there is definitely a market for these cheap automstics.
