Having dealt with half a dozen or so handmade strap makers this year, I have come to realise that you are not buying a strap; you are buying a strap maker. I have had some excellent experiences this year, some not so good...

So it was with trepidation that I started to look for a strapmaker to replace the rather wimpy (well from my point of view anyway), thin original strap on my Berkbinder and Brown. I wanted a thick strap but it had to fit in the watch’s lugless system which only allows for leather of only about ½ mm in thickness where the spring bars load. The spring bars are extra thin and the lugless space is incredibly small.

So with these specs in mind, I approached one guy- no reply. Then he later said he was too busy...okay, so I then came across David of StrapEvolution, on another forum, who was selling bronze cerakote (baked ceramic finish) buckles. I was thinking about getting a “bronze” buckle for the watch when I found out he did straps too so I asked him and he replied straight away on 1[suP]st[/suP] October 2012. He was very friendly and answered all my questions; the answers were so detailed and friendly for an initial e-mail, I was sold straight away...

I sent him the original strap and he received it on 24 October. He worked on some different materials; I initially wanted vintage ammo leather but it was not viable. Eventually we settled on distressed leather and on 10 December, today, I received a most excellent parcel. It did take some time but I did not give David a deadline; I wanted it right, and it was a good price too....

and then the new strap...enjoy!

Strap works nicely with the watch. I like that thumbnail buckle better than the pre-v style.

Great story. i am very very unimpressed; then i see that's the original strap in the first shots, so i chuckle wondering if i'm the only dip that thought the same thing. That new strap makes a new watch in my opinion, thats a great combination for a very impressive watch. i'm glad that worked out for You!
