**Official Announcement** I am pleased to now be able to offer more information regarding the launch of my new brand of watches. STRIDER WATCH LTD (yes, named after my son) will be releasing the first model, called the Hyperdive very soon. I have one of the 3 prototypes in my hands right now, and will be releasing some sneak peek images shortly.

HYPERDIVE Specs:

46mm case (large dial opening, so will appear to be slightly larger)
316L Steel
Hand built in the USA
Miyota 9015 automatic movement, will be adjusted in-house to run within 5 spd
Numbered Limited Edition of 500 total watches
3 variations (silvertone/black, silvertone/grey, black/black/black PVD)
*The TOTAL across all 3 variations will be 500 pieces, not 500 pieces per variation*
Extreme amounts of Superluminova in unique applications
Textured sandwich style dial (asphalt/antique texture)
500 Meters water resistant & tested
Sapphire crystal
Multi-link 5 row bracelet
Leather strap (thick)
NATO strap
2 tools: One for bracelet link adjustment, one for interchangeable lugs
Custom packaging & travel case

Price will be $550 USD, with $50 OFF for all those who pre-order (pre-order expected to launch in December), so early adopters will get it for $500.

I have wanted to do this for a number of years, and now I am finally able to release my own line of watches, that are 100% my designs from the ground up. I am overjoyed to be fortunate enough to have partnered with my dear friend Wing Liang for my production. With Wing's incredible talent, and technical mind, we have been able to quickly overcome several hurdles that my design has thrown at me. Sometimes what you dream up in your mind may make it to paper and CAD, but won't always translate to a workable design in the real world. Wing is able to catch these things before it causes lost time going back and forth with the factory.

With the exclusions and limitations set forth by ETA, I chose to use the Miyota 9015 automatic movement. The 9015 was designed to compete with the ETA 2892A2 (which is a model higher up in quality and price than the ETA 2824-2) and has proven itself to be a fantastic quality movement with finesse and great accuracy. This also prevents us from running into supply issues down the road for parts, or whole movements.

The first model, the Hyperdive is a no-frills tool diver. It does exactly what you want a diver to do, and look good doing it. Free of unnecessary do-dads or design elements that clutter up many divers today, it is clear and easy to read at a glance, creates a sleek look on the wrist, and is perfectly legible in low light and zero light conditions. The 5 row, multi-link bracelet will come with a sliding adjustable clasp for a wetsuit extension, that can also be easily slid in and out while on the wrist to provide adjustments for comfort during daily wear. No need to take the watch off to make this adjustment. This system has been employed by a number of quality dive watches previously, with great success.

I chose a full brushed finish with no polishing so that as a daily wearer watch, you can feel free to bang it up, scratch it up and wear it without feeling like you have to baby it. When the scratches get to be too much, you can simply run a green Scotchbrite pad over the surfaces and bring it back to a factory new look in SECONDS. No second tone of finish to get in the way of doing this at home yourself. *NOTE, this obviously excludes the all black PVD model which obviously cannot be brushed out due to the finish over the steel.

A simple interchangeable system utilizing hex-headed screws (one sided, no extra parts to worry about losing) that thread directly into the case lugs allows for fast changeout from the bracelet to the 2 provided straps in the kit, all while adding rock solid security and a solid feel as you'd expect from any solid end link bracelet.

This is a straight forward, daily wear diver that should fit well into anyone's lifestyle. My goal was to make it more of a "medium size" by today's standards, so that it can be easily worn, but still project a large look on the wrist. It is stout though, believe that. Very substantial and weighty feel, without being cumbersome as is so prominent these days in the dive watch segment. Priority was placed on comfort.

More details to come soon.

I don't know what the controversy is with this (and please don't bring it up in this thread) but the teaser looks promising. Specs look like everything you could want in a diver, so I am interested to see where this goes.

My thoughts exactly. But apropos another current thread, this is one there is no way I'd do a pre-order on because of the lack of any kind of track record.

The watch, I'd say, deserves a chance to make it on its own merits but I'd want to see how it plays in Peoria together with some completely objective reviews.

the contraversy was all about JS and his peddling on ShopNBC back in the days of Invicta and his hyping the brand etc etc etc

i dont know or think anyone would hold it against him - he is very knowledgable about watches and his specs etc on this Brand etc seem to be appropos for it

looks very interesing if they dont HYPE it like he is known to do - it may work for him!!!

My opinion of JS has less to do with his tenure with ShopNBC and more about what I knew of him before he had that job. With all the threads about pre-orders gone bad, I would never, ever send him any amount of money for any reason, much less for a pre-order. 'Nuff said?

I'd give up watch collecting before I bought one of these.

Sounds to me like he would have to present a piece for a review here at WF's before he gets any traction.

Spec looks ok, but I'm looking for something a bit different now. A lot of good competition who already have proven track records targeting the same customers. It's become a tough market for the new start.

designed it from the ground up. Well from that picture it doesn't look like a ground breaking design. We'll see when he shows the whole watch.

Anyway, too big for me so I wouldn't by his watch anyway, too many other nice ones out there.

Watch pics look interesting. I will wait to see more.

Whether I will buy them or not is irrelevant in the long run. If I do you will know by the just arrived threads.

No different then any other brand. My opinion on if I like them or not will be based on the looks of the watch and other features.

All I know is what has been ongoing feuds and lawsuits.
Never have seen the NBC show as I don't watch that channel much.

However, made in USA on dial does remind me of the days when I was a child and the cheap tin toys, the rocket radio with the crystal all from Japan had USA
Stamped on the toy. Was it really a town in Japan.. Or an effort to give some quality aura to the product. Just where is this made? I suspect the same place Invicta and others ???? Now as for quality, I do not find Chinese made goods bad, far from it. I just want to know and no be ridiculed later for being naive.
The Dievas was considered by many to be a Chinese and devalued
I lucked out and got one of the first with Fricker cases and ETA. Great watch owned by a company in Singapore. So knowledge on the source would help greatly here. Just my thoughts, I have no grudge as TV pitchmen are known
be salesmen. Reminds me again of a favorite show in the 50's, Believe it or Not.

No pre order. But really a great thread. Best this week I think. Thanks

Why would anyone feel sorry for Wing? That makes no sense at all. He sells a lot if watches. Always has. Probably will continue to. Whether I like his watches is again irrelevant.

I don't understand some of the comments being made. I honestly don't.

The watch will probably sell a ton and lets be honest, unlike many others it will have the advantage of a well known tv salesperson who sells watches pushing it once it comes out. Most micro brands never get that exposure

I don't care one way or another but mildly surprised by some of the comments. I thought we were long long past that. Like 2-3 years past that. If you don't support a brand or a certain model - don't buy it. Pretty strong statement to not spend your money.

But to blindly discount anything (not just watches) without any first hand knowledge seems uninformed and short sighted.

OK, now I have to weigh in.....

I boycott a lot of companies. It is just my personal decision that if I don't like something I let my money speak for me. Without getting political, I won't shop at Chick-Fil-A, Hobby Lobby, Pappa John's and many other places. I won't buy Barilla pasta or coffee from Starbucks. The list is rather long, and growing, and I'll spare you the rest. However, the point is I let my money talk for me. Watches are no exception. I won't buy this, or Stolas, Olivier, or Renato. Again, I let my money talk and I don't get past it. I don't let it affect my everyday life until it comes time to buy. I don't care if this is the last diver on the face of the earth.....I won't buy it. For me it has nothing to do with if I like it or not. There are plenty of choices and I'll spend my money with a company I can be proud to support.

I kind of disagree.

First off, its a dive watch. Most dive watches share the same basic principals, like a rotating bezel, lumed hands and markers, screw down crown, etc, etc.

From high end to boutique brands thats mostly the same.

At this point...how much can you do to dive watch to make it different. Some companies really try and push it and go outside the box and people slam them for it, saying its too busy, to unconventional etc.

I will agree and say, yeah, its a dive watch. Many similarities to others. lumed bezel, sandwich markers(although thats not seen on most dive watches), black or grey dial, screw down crown, multi link bracelet.

But, you have to remember the market. While for some of us, its just another dive watch, for some this might their first dive watch, or the one that looks a little different enough for them to jump on it.

Spec wise and price are right in line with Magrette and some other brands, and cheaper than many others using same movement these days. Basically $200 less than the Tempest diver just released and almost $200 less than the 2nd edition Boschett Harpoon, all using the Miyota 9015 movement.

It is what it is, and of course we can all speak with our wallets.
