i am going to purchase a new g-shock gac-100-1a2 all analogue chronograph . like most g-shocks the three new gac-100 models ( three colors ) are made completely out of plastic . it is amusing that sports watch makers say their products are made out of resin because they don't want to use the word plastic . anyway i am buying this gshock gac-100-1a2 chronograph sight unseen . i like the press photos and the relatively simplified gshock face design . i have never owned a gshock because i thought that their functions were mostly superfluous - at least to my purposes . but the new gshock gac-100-1a2 is simply a shock proof waterproof all analogue chronograph that runs on a three year battery . no night light . no illegible digital windows that look outdated in three years . only a tough waterproof all analogue time counter to 1/20 of a second for twelve hours with split times . this is the most useful gshock design ever produced by casio .
my only " problem " with my future purchase of the new gshock gac-100-1a2 is with the replacement of the plastic gshock strap with a full 22mm black solid metal bracelet . can i find out how the gsock plastic strap is attached to the plastic watch case ? is the supplied gshock plastic strap removable ? does casio use conventional lugs to attach the band to the case ? what is the width of the gsock plastic strap at the point where it attaches to the gshock case ? can most competent watch repair professionals improvise a custom lug for the 22mm black metal bracelet and permanently fix the altered hardware to the gshock case .
i would appreciate your input whether you believe this idea is plausible idiotic pointless or genius . can a black casio g-shock gac-100-1a2 be comfortably worn with a custom fitted 22mm black metal bracelet ?

thanks

I personally wouldn't mess around with a metal bracelet. I think it's cool the way it is, though it'd also be great on a zulu or nato.

My $0.02

I dont know if you can fit a metal bracelet on there. Depends on the lug and screw setup.
Plus the bracelet would weigh way more than the watch head, making it a little unbalanced.

Congrats on your Gshock purchase. I'm sure you''ll love it.

I'm a Gshock fan. I have 4 and am thinking of getting another one.

The only "not so much fun" thing about Gshocks is that they use very custom lug designs for straps.

Unfortunately, unless that specific model has a variant model with a metal bracelet, you won't be able to fit a bracelet on to it.

Not entirely sure, but on that model in the picture, seems like it uses 2 screws on either side of the bezel to secure the strap into place. My Gulfman has a similar setup.

thank you for your opinions .
the new gshock gac-100 analogue chronographs come in three models . the gs gac-100-1ajf is model one . the gs gac-100-1a2jf is model two . the gs gac 100-8ajf is model three . they all look very cool to me in the promo pics . i actually wish that i could purchase all three gac-100s . i like model two because it is all black --- ie the standard gshock protection and other lettering is embossed in the same black color as the case . but -- on the other hand i prefer the grey and white colors of model one's face . the model two has a preferable case and a blue face . i am not as fond of the blue face as i am the black / grey face . i could buy both models and put the model one movement and/or face in the model two case .
the khaki colored model is attractive . i have never considered owning a khaki colored sports watch but i would like to have this gshock gac-100-8ajf khaki because it is all analogue .
none of these watches have night lights which is a plus for me . night lights are cheesy and run the battery down . these watches do not charge from light or receive exact time signals . this is also a plus for me because i am a vampire and cannot be exposed to light . the gac-100s have an analogue date at three o'clock and a 1/20 of a second chronograph function and no illegible dubious digital windows that are annoying and tacky . the gac-100s are for sale with delivery in about two weeks on ebay for
$209.00 . my guess is they will be on amazon for around $125 shipped in about two months .
the post above mentioned that these pictures appear to show a proprietary gshock lug screw that might be removable . the question would be : if i improvised a new lug with spacers to attach a 22mm black metal bracelet to the gac-100 large width case would the bracelet appear out of place -- and feel too heavy for the gshock case and movement . i will likely at least try it .

I wouldn't bother with the bracelet mod.

I'm a somewhat casual Gshock modder over at WuS community.

First of all, unlike some of the more expensive Protreks/Aviator series, the GD series is completely made up on resin. Casio makes some models by coating the resin case with ion plating and those models already come on stock bracelet.

I'm a regular stalker at my local Macy's (they get new GShocks pretty early) and I haven't seen this model yet. If the lugs are anything like the Froggies, then it will be 26mm with screws on each end and the straps will be tapered on the lug end. I was able to mod my Frogman with a 24mm notched leather strap:

But the wide lugs still dwarf the strap :-(. I figure the newer GAC100 may end up the same way. Unless you wanna try putting the Casio adapters and using zulu/nato but that'd be opposite of the look you want.

I wouldn't even bother with a metal bracelet with this particular model (also considering the balance would be off...dead light on the case with a heavy pull of the bracelet on the sides).

I'd leave the g-Shocks as they are. Love that piece.
