I finished up June 19th, then spent the last week recovering! I'm hitting the job hunt hard this week. Hopefully the hunt won't be too long! I'm so bored at the current job!

Hopefully, I'll have more time to ogle at some timepieces around here!

@TX-Swann - I actually use Linux nearly exclusively at home, and I really enjoy it. I also took a Linux Administration class a couple years ago. I thought about this path, and may still pursue it. However, I like the software development side too. Probably my biggest passion is Security. I just don't know where I want to focus just yet in terms of the securing a web application, or mobile application making it hard to crack, or focus on the back end through administration like you're talking about. Obviously, any web developer will need to know techniques to prevent packet sniffing and basic authentication for a web app, but that may not be enough for me. We'll see!

I hate to make you all jealous, but this is what I did. I sold my house in a large industrius town, then bought a lovely bungalow by the sea. The equity difference allowed my wife and I to retire at the age of 57. I now play golf instead of working.

Nice, What I actually did was go back to school. Doubled income, said F working full time. Now I work 6 months, spend a month doing family vacation stuff with parents and brothers family. Then I spend 5 months just kinda chilling out in Thailand. I call myself half retired.

Could never done this if I hadn't gone back to school.

It's so very facinating to read what life & career changes people make. I suppose most don't make many changes. I never did. People get so entrenched in routine & obligation or don't feel comfortable with risk.
As a pre teen, I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that most people work until 65, & now 70 seems to be the norm. These thoughts never really left me. I worked for an auto maker for 30 years, & simultainiously ran a small chemical import & distribution company, while working for Baseball Canada, nations governing body for the sport. I reached the highest level of umpiring in Canada & officiated international games around the world.
In 2006 I started to wind things down some & fully retired at 48. My wife is a sports writer & she will retire in 2-3 years.
I did quite a bit at once, but never took the risk of changing vocations. Kudos to those who do.

For me it came down to a several key factors: 1- wrong mental health license for my state leading to very poor job opportunities; 2- tied to the state by my relationships; 3- crippled by college/university debt ( I pay more per month than our house payment) because my income is not commensurate with my education in this state; 4- I'm burned out at watching government bureaucracy change so slowly that lives are negatively effected and no one listens to reason; 5- because I have opinions on regarding #4, I've determined I'll never move up; 6- I'm a geek at heart and can make money being a geek, a lot more money... I'll fulfill my heart in other ways outside of work.
