Yep, that's one of our libraries. Not just books but CD's (completely automated lending system, you order your CD's on a computer and after that you wait until you order is shown on a monitor with the number of the locker where they are deposited. After you have entered your card and have paid, the door of the locker opens and you can fetch your CD's), DVD's, thousands of newspapers and magazines, etc. You can play chess on a giant board or have a coffee at the indoor café. It's a nice place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Very nice!

We have a small and very nice little library a few blocks away. There is a city wide library system so you can order anything books, CDs, DVDs, and periodicals that are available in the system and they'll be delivered there for pickup. They actually checkout digital books to your e-reader too. Their stock is small, so the system wide lending is key. Pretty neat.

Lucky for you. If the Clinton's were after you you'd already be dead.

That is beautiful. She went into operation in 1959, just before the peak of luxury world wide cruises. It was sold by the HAL in 1997 but bought back by a foundation and fully restored some years ago. (Causing a great scandal as the restoration turned into a gigantic money pit, almost bankrupting the new owner). It's a hotel now, with a couple of restaurants and bars and permanently moored in Rotterdam.

All over town, old (pre WWII) hand painted billboards are rediscovered and restored. This one is close to our home and is an advertisement for a long forgotten Dutch jenever (Gin) brand:

Default Per fortius certamen

Per fortius certamen (Stronger through Battle). This is the City of Rotterdam's motto since 1948 and given because of the hardships and battle during WWII. It's also the motto of football club Feyenoord F.C. who will stand a very great chance to become national league champions again after 18 long years. This is HUGE. The whole city is almost exploding. Below a picture of the gigantic banner with the motto in Dutch that has been placed by fans on the former Shell head office close to the centre of town. Behind that building you see a block of red roofed houses. In the back of that block is where our house is:

Up close:

It was 16,000 Euro and was paid for by the fans. To have it attached to the building was another several thousand Euro but paid for by the City (the best form of advertising possible, it will be all over the news this evening. Rotterdam promotion at its best).
