Default Seiko vs. Bulova

I'm new to the world of watches and I could use some advice on brands. So far bulova and seiko carry more of what I like (in my price range) than most other brands. I don't feel like one will be way better than the other, but I would like to know what y'all thought. In your experience (price not being a factor) are bulova's or seiko's generally better watches?

Although I intended this to be more of a general thread I have two specific watches to compare. The bulova marine star 96b163 and the seiko SSC141. They are both silver bracelet, blue dial, chronographs. The only major differences being the manufacturer and the fact that the seiko has an alarm. Thoughts?

In my short history with Seiko's they have been very reliable. I have never owned a Bulova but have heard some great things with some of their watches. Seiko has a good reputation as does Bulova, but I would go for the Seiko. Mainly because it is the only one in stock.

In addition, the seiko is solar and 42mm while the bulova is 47mm

As far as whats in stock; I have a bulova AD a few minutes from my house. 40% off the entirety of bulova's products at the moment. That would make it $264 after tax. Honestly I think price will become the deciding factor, there is nearly a $100 difference between the two.

You are definitely new but thats okay. Here is my take they both make certain watches in the same price range and that is the only comparison I can think of. IMO Seiko is the greatest most innovative watch company in the history of watchmaking. They make quality watches for $100 to $10k. I think the most expensive Bulova in $2k.

Bulova is a great watch with a great history. Both are very good, in my opinion.
I would go with what you like, what fits your wrist better and how much you want to spend.

Either one is a good choice.

Buy the way, Citizen owns Bulova

Unless you're going vintage Bulova I'd say Seiko. Hands down Seiko. But... I'm not a fan of Citizen really so I'm biased.

Get yourself one of these old beauties:

They have good auto movements too. Solid little lumps.
Can't wait to get mine back from IWW!

I guess if you go for a Seiko monster..there is no other watch which can be compared to it..of course unless you go for a Rolex or something..Both the watch brands are just great and possess a very high level of precision..so it depends upon your taste which one to go for?

Seiko, I believe most models hold their value better.

Seiko all the way here. However I am biased to Seiko. The Bulova is probably a quality product also.

Buloiva has some good watches (especially their vintage ones), and Seiko is of course a great manufacturer. It comes down to the watch you're looking at. In this case, i like the Seiko model better.
